The other phases of matter are solid, liquid, and gas.
1. Solid: In the solid phase, particles are closely packed together and have a fixed shape and volume. The particles vibrate in place but do not move past each other. Solids have a definite shape and volume and maintain their shape under normal conditions.
2. Liquid: In the liquid phase, particles are still close together but are able to move past each other. Liquids have a definite volume but take the shape of their container. They flow and can be poured, but do not expand to fill the entire container.
3. Gas: In the gas phase, particles are far apart and move freely and rapidly. Gases have neither a definite shape nor volume and will expand to fill the entire container they are in. Gases are compressible and can be easily compressed or expanded.
