What is insider threat and explain any two of it's types?

Insider threat refers to the potential risk posed to an organization by individuals within the organization, such as employees, contractors, or business partners, who have access to sensitive information and resources. These individuals may intentionally or unintentionally misuse their access to cause harm to the organization, such as stealing data, sabotaging systems, or leaking confidential information.

Two types of insider threats are:

1. Malicious Insider: This type of insider threat involves individuals who intentionally misuse their access to harm the organization. This could include employees who steal sensitive data for personal gain, sabotage systems out of revenge, or leak confidential information to competitors. Malicious insiders often have a deep understanding of the organization's systems and processes, making it easier for them to carry out their malicious activities without being detected.

2. Negligent Insider: Negligent insiders pose a threat to the organization through their careless or unintentional actions. This could include employees who accidentally click on phishing emails, share sensitive information on insecure platforms, or fail to follow security protocols. While negligent insiders may not have malicious intent, their actions can still result in significant harm to the organization, such as data breaches or system outages. Organizations can mitigate the risk posed by negligent insiders through training, awareness programs, and implementing strict security policies and procedures.
